A friend asked me to track down some information on her family in Bohemia and I discovered it is not yet in geni, so I thought I'd add it. But this requires me to create a tree/profile from scratch (not related to me or anyone I can find in geni.com right now). How do I create a new tree (which I hope eventually will start to link into existing trees).

Just add the person anywhere in your tree and then disconnect it from the incorrect parents.
I tried that but it won't disconnect - It says it will break the tree?

I am working on some family profiles for a Geni project that I will soon want to add to the Geni tree. So far the people are not connected to me in any way. And no one else on Geni seems to have them in their trees either or I would just add the information to theirs. Is the above method to temporarily add a profile to one of my own and then disconnect it still the best way to accomplish getting the new tree information on Geni? In my case, it is not a matter of just temporarily adding one name. Once I add the person and then disconnect it, I will be adding new profiles to it in all directions. Thanks!
No, there's a new feature for creating new trees: Research -> Create a branch

Hi Chris, the best way to go about this is to build your maternal side on the same tree.
The goal of Geni is to create a single, shared family tree of the entire world through collaboration. This is what distinguishes Geni from other online family tree websites that allow its users to create separate, isolated family trees. On Geni, we want to connect everyone together. If you would like to maintain separate isolated trees, then we'd recommend using MyHeritage instead.
