How do I merge two people in my own tree?

I trace two different people back to the same ancestor, so have the common ancestor listed twice. How do I merge those two individuals as one person?

  I have a relative who was related to me by marriage and to my husband by marriage, so the same person has two connections to us.  I'm sorry to say I don't know how to merge that one person so that his information isn't duplicated.
