Do an immediate check for public when a profile changes owners.

Lois Lubin If by this you mean automatically make a profile Public if it changes owners - absolutely not!! It may be changing owners, for example, because it was added by the profile's 4th cousin and now the profile's sister is taking control - or the mother or etc. (or even being claimed). And if this is an inexperienced geni-user or someone with little computer know-how, this could definitely create problems for them.

Philip James Decker, Ͼ I'm virtually certain that Terry meant check whether a profile should be public (*) when its ownership changes.
(*) no claimed profile within its Family Group

Bjørn P. Brox I think such a check already exist, but of course you still have the rule for making public by having no claimed profiles (Geni users) in the family group of the profile, which your example of a sister is a good reason for not making it public. You should probably turn it around: Should the profile automatically be made private ;-)
In any case: A user can change the privacy on all unclaimed profiles within his/hers family-group regardless of who is the manager.

Lois Lubin Re: "A user can change the privacy on all unclaimed profiles within his/hers family-group regardless of who is the manager." -- Not currently true - I know the geni-team said this would be true, and for a while it was -- but then they moved the button (for setting Private vs Public) off the main Overview Page and now to change Privacy status you have to click "Edit" (and go to "Basics" page) -- and you cannot do this if it is a Public Profile and you are not a manager or Collaborator.

Bjørn P. Brox A common confusion on this rule is that edit access is for the actual profiles within your family group, not if the manager is within your family-group.
If for example your spouse/brother/sister/close relative are managing public profiles which fall outside YOUR family group you have to collaborate with him/her to have edit access even if the manager if your wife, and that edit access does not give you any access to change privacy of the profiles.
A family group member does also have the option to lock under-age profiles (under 13) he/she manager of to only allow him/herself to edit it.

I am not sure I understand your comment, and I am unclear if it is supposedly addressing my comment just below it. Your middle paragraph definitely is not addressing my comment. I know I was not talking about Manager being in family (or not).
If "Forum" was still accessible, I could find where either Mike or Noah (I forget which) basically went "Oh, whoops", as they stated agreement that geni had undone the option to change Privacy setting on immediate family where that family member's profile was set as Public (for example, you just joined geni by accepting an invite to/claiming your profile, other family members had unclaimed Public Profiles - currently you can do nothing about them, just your own).

Carol Ann Burley My father is the owner of my tree and he is now deceased. How to I become the owner? It is confusing for me to the daughter when the tree is now mine
-
Geni Support Team Hi, we're sorry for your loss. Please report your father's profile as Deceased via the Actions button on his profile and our customer service team can assist with unclaiming the account. Once the profile is unclaimed, you will be able to update his profile to reflect his passing and management of his profiles will be transferred.
