When someone joins Geni it should be CRYSTAL CLEAR that the aim of Geni is to create a one world tree and that trees are shared so that they should first check Geni for any of their ancestors names before adding them themselves. THey may even find themselves on Geni! There should also be clear instructions given about how to join you family's tree if it already exists to some extent on Geni and how to merge duplicates if you create any.

Joe Brous Buttrill There should be clear instructions about lots of things on Geni, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you.
How about if Geni did an immediate Merge Center-type profile match on a newly entered profile and came back with a warning telling the new user that the profile being entered is very similar to one already entered by another user?

Judith Ann Sarnow Gluck I agree. I am trying to find out how to merge one part of my tree that was input by my cousin. I didn't know it was there and can't link to it but it shows in the merge area. It doesn't let me merge though.

Terry Jackson (Switzer) Judith, it's possible your cousin isn't aware of the merge centre. You could try contacting them and gently suggesting they may like to approve your merges.
