I would like the ability to be able to remove a person from the relationship path and then recalculate.
For example, both me and my wife are joined to the big tree from both sides, how would we be related if we were not married?
Easiest way I can see to do this is remove her from the path, and check my relationship to her parents.

I think the only way you can find your husband-wife relationship outside the marriage with current Geni functionality is to remove the marriage (on Geni temporarily - not in reality)! Not very satisfactory. Your proposed solution sounds feasible to me. It's not really the person you want to remove from the path - it's the relationship between you and her that you need to remove from the path in order to find another path.
Maybe is possibile add option to recalculate relationship trace in customized ways, like in Google Maps :)

But it is not possible to remove the husband-wife relationship if they have children or descendants, right?
It could be as simple (from a user viewpoint) as having a button to say "Find 2nd closest path" or "Display 2nd closest path". That would ignore the closest relationship (e.g.: marriage/partnership) and see if there was another path between the two. There might not be any other path, in some (many?) cases.
Many of us are related to family members on multiple levels - with all the comments though, I don't see a "simple" solution to seeing those variables - have I missed something?
