Can we allow for blanks to count as values in name fields? This otherwise becomes problematic when merging two profiles. To remedy this, some users make use of placeholder such as "." and duplicate the last name in the Maiden name field. Thank you.

Erica Howton I still want a value in the last name field when it does in fact exist (such as when an Anglo American woman takes her husband's name, which is the convention for the last 400 years). Otherwise I think think this is a great idea.

Victar @Erica, oh yeah, definitely.

Harald Tveit Alvestrand (Tveit) The point is (I think) that when two profiles are merged, and one has a value and the other one is blank, that needs to be flagged as a conflict, which can be resolved in favour of the blank, rather than the non-blank value automatically overriding the blank.
Quite often, the blank should win.

Victar @Harald, exactly.
