Remove Unneeded Project Update and Discussion Update Prompts

I am submitting it here at Joe's request, as he has some problems with submitting fature requests.

When a user adds a comment to a Geni project discussion, they get two indicators on their home page:

1. A project that they are following has been updated; and

2. A discussion that they are following has been updated.

These indicators do not tell the Geni user which project was updated or which discussion was updated.  Therefore, the user must click on the Project prompt to find out which project it is in - it's the one where they added the comment, and similarly must click on the Discussion prompt to find out that it was their comment there too.

Since the user added the comment, it seems unnecessary to tell the user that the project and discussion have been updated.  And it is frustrating for the user to be led back to where they themselves posted.  It is suggested that it would be useful to add a feature to Geni to prevent these unnecessary and frustrating notifications.

  I am still seeing this problem of notice that a project or discussion updated when I personally posted something to it.

  I am now also seeing that the Home page and Research drop-down indicator notices of discussion and projects updated does not always match the actual page.

  I think the problem is breaking down discussions by projects...if you read the discussion tied to the project, the project still shows an update available because you didn't read the updated project.  If you read the Project page first, the indicator that there are new Discussions goes away apparently because you read the Project.  These need to be separated and counted individually. 

  In my opinion Discussions are Discussions and all should show under updated Discussions, whether part of a project or not.  Sure, give us an update on the Project if there is a new discussion, but don't turn off the indicator on updated Discussions to read until they are actually read!

  I recently had an instance where I had zero discussion showing as unread on both my home page and the Research drop-down, but when I actually went to Discussions I Follow, I had FOUR unread.
