Also, I have been working with Dallan Quass, the guy who wrote the back-end search engine for the new FamilySearch website (the one that went live in January) and, now, the architect of the WeRelate searches. I've written articles for Dick Eastman's newsletter and the GermanGenealogyGroup on the subject of wildcard searches, particularly with regard to matching Surnames.
