I just merged this profile with a duplicate which was marked as living and the resulting profile was living with no date of death, even when I switched it manually to deceased.

Erin - it's there at http://www.geni.com/merge/resolve/6000000004047214948 - it's conflicting data waiting to be resolved.
It's always good to check for conflicting data after a merge.
Then let's change this bug to: "Living/Deceased merge should ALWAYS end in deceased profile when a death date exists!"
Agreed! That is the underlying issue.
