Basic users recently lost the ability to make merges -- to make any merges at all. Yet we still get notices about "merge issues" about which we can do nothing at all. All people with Geni accounts ought to be able to make merges when one of the profiles involved is within their own family group. Trying to find a person with Pro status to fix a duplication is not a reasonable option, as unless he is somehow connected to the profile in question, he has no particular reason to help.

Job Waterreus Basic users who are manager of a profile within their family group should be asked to agree to a merge (and should be able to block the request)

Sara Tanenbaum My understanding is that even if I am a Pro User, I can't merge my tree with anyone else's unless they are also a paying member. Is that correct? Are we completely dependent on Curators to do merges unless all of people involved are Pro Users. This would seem to make the site much less useful even for those who are paying customers.

Sara Tanenbaum With respect to my previous post, I understand and expect that paying users will get more benefits from the site than users who don't pay, however, this has a bad impact on paying users whose relatives don't also pay. At a minimum, this should be changed so that only one of the managers involved in the merge needs to be a paying customer. One simple way to do this would be to limit merge initiation to paying customers but let any member (including basic) approve a merge.
