allow merging duplicates on Basic membership

I am new to Geni.com and was quite excited about all that I can do here, but not yet ready to upgrade from Basic membership.  I created an account and invited about six distant cousins to join Geni, which they did.  All of a sudden my whole family tree is messed up.  When I created my own account, my tree was merged into my son's existing account...and all members of my immediate family are now duplicated.  When I tried to correct the duplicate problem, I learned that I must upgrade my account to do this.  If you want accurate information on your world tree, I suggest that you make it easier for people like me to correct mistakes caused by changes made without my knowledge.  There should be clear information given when a new member registers, explaining how your site works (that people outside of my family will be monitoring and merging my personal information).  The lack of information and difficulty required to resolve this issue is quite frustrating.  Being forced to enter my credit card information in order to correct a problem created by others certainly doesn't cause me to want to pay for a higher membership level.
