Flash Player does not support 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista.
Flash Player does not support 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista.
I am running 64 bit Firefox with 64 bit flash. Google them, they are there
Perhasp I did google I got to the page http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html (Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows)
I follow the links and I get to this page http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ where it says
Note:Flash Player does not support 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista. Flash Player 11 now includes support for Windows 7 64-bit.
So Geni are saying use flash - which is not supported on my system the Adobe site says it not supported and sure enough all the installs appear to work - and then Flash does not work and I still get the message from geni saying I dont have it installed.
Here is where you need to go, http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Flash player now supports native 64 bit (windows) what browser are you using?
If you are not running a 64 bit browser when you access the site, you may get a different message. I get this " Note:The 64-bit Flash Player installer includes both a 32-bit and 64-bit version of Flash Player"
Win 7 includes a 64 bit IE but you have to look for it. My 64 bit Firefox is here http://nightly.mozilla.org/ Test builds but I don't have any problems running it. Java works fine also.
I'd guess that you are saying for Firefox 64bit I can use any Windows Flash player so finally I just selected Windows 7-64 Bit with Firefox which downloaded and worked - So I guess its unsupported - but works. Flash player does NOT support windows 64bit - it supports Windows 7 64bit.
To be a bit more helpful I think what was happening is that if I go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and just download the flash player it was downloading the 32bit firefoxflash player - despite using the 64bit firefox to download it - So I had to go and download and install manually (and lie to the site and say I wanted a Windows 7 64bit version - so i could get the Firefox 64bit verson)
Your example that it is working made be investigate and eventually work out what was wrong, but your advice - "google them" - did not help as there is no Windows Vista 64bit option on the Adobe website download selection list so "they are NOT there "
Ross, we are getting into semantics here.
Win 7 is both 64 and 32 bit if it is installed on a 64 bit machine as all new ones are. I don't believe that XP and Vista are 64 bit.
The problem has been that there are few programs available that support 64 bit.
Firefox has been developing a 64 bit version and it has been available for public use and testing for almost a year and I think it will be in RC stage soon if it is not already.
Adobe has been wishy/washy about 64 bit flash, but it has been available at Adobe Labs for testing with no auto updates. PIA to use as you had to check almost daily, remove old version and install new one. Now it seems that they are releasing a combo version . You may need to use a 64 bit browser when accessing their site in order to get it, I haven't tried with my 32 bit FF.
I was hoping that Geni staff would jump in here and comment maybe giving us the good news that they are going to quit using flash as it will no longer be supported by Adobe in a few months. Flash is so flaky and unstable that I can't wait to see it go.
