Please add the capabilty to both enter and display dates in the genealogical standard for recording dates; dd mmm yyyy (example: 12 Oct 2005). Some references also specify the genealogical convention is the day, month, and year format for all dates, with the year written out in full. Months are generally written out in full as well, although standard three-letter abbreviations may be used.
Have you tried to enter dates in that format?
Yes tried it. Usually gives a date format error sometimes no error, but in both cases it does not work. Need capability to display not only enter.
For me entering a date like "12 Oct 2005" works quite well if the date are using a month name matching the month name in my Geni language selection.
Spaces (DD MM YYYY) should not be required (DDMMYYYY). Please add the genealogical standard date format as a choice to as a date format Preference option for displaying dates..
give us options for date format - this is a database after all - I don't want to enter dates in different formats on different sites - I know I'll screw-up
Hi, Rick ... have you checked your profile preferences? You can select a few different DISPLAY alternatives -- and in most cases you can enter the date in any reasonable form: just don't abbreviate the year. e.g.: 7/23/1920 == 23 Jul 1920 == Jul 23 1920.
Dates taken from data in Myheritage.com in standard format e.g. 3 May1960 convert automatically to a format that is only used in the USA , i.e 05/03/1960 . this will lead to confusion and it seems there is no way of changing it.
Please note that you can change your own account preferences to display dates in the manner you prefer -- independent of the format in which the date is entered.
Hi Dan, I don't think it is even possible to change the format of the OUTPUT display date. It must be base on the language selected. Example if English it will always be mm/dd/yy. My native language(Malay) is a bit screwed now because some translators had translated it to mm/dd/yy and some to dd/mm/yy.The only date format that able to be change is the INPUT display date(only 3 formats are available).

You are correct about the display being tied to the language; I went and 'Me Too' on your suggestion to have user-specific display formats.
Unless US English everone can go into the translations and suggest another translation and vote up and down suggestions
Hi Bjørn. In my opinion, the display date format should not be tie to language selection at all. English is a worldwide language used across the globe, but date format should be base on country or self preference.
In my country we should use DD/MM/YYYY. However there are several main languages used; English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil(there are a lot more). And each languages have it's own date format which will cause users having a different format of date.
I have a date format that I have used for 40 years across multiple platforms DDMMMYYYY. This is a format widely used in genealogical circles. When I put my dates in this way they are "Corrected" in a manner that makes it look like I don't know what I am doing. How do I fix this? I need to use this platform to participate in a group project.
