almost Genealogy program I use has one line for the name - as follows
First - middle - Last
also for all places of events it is also one line - graduated from the smallest to the largest on one line ie.
City/town, township, county/Parish, State/Province, County
this would allow space on the form to allow for placin the marriage date /baptismal date on the main data base entry page also this could be the reason why so many placs are lost when you allowed gedcoms
for dates i woudl suggest a drop down menu for circa, before, after, between for all date fields - this is where dates have been lost when you allowed gedcoms to be imported
