Evidently, Geni is using an obsolete GEDCOM export format.
I have been trying for days to get a Geni GEDCOM download into three different stand alone programs. I get thousands of errors. Looking at my GEDCOM in a text editor, I see tags like _MAR which are no longer correct tags so the program you are trying to import to will not make the marriages. Dates are formatted incorrectly,and extra numbers are in the year (usually 5 numbers). Photos include 4 or more locations and 3 locations link to nothing so you have in my case over a thousand pictures to match up with profiles.
