i would like to be able to send family members a unique URL to an editable family tree. this would make it so much easier for family members to find the tree and add and edit info.

Lo If you send them an invite and they accept it - then they can log in and edit "their" family tree. There really is no such thing as a unique, separate Family Tree unless it is a stand-alone tree with only one claimed profile. So I don't see this as a good idea.
You say "this would make it so much easier for family members to find the tree and add and edit info." - but how could that be any easier than accepting the invite you send them - Or is the step to click 'Tree' up the top of the page really that burdensome??

david patrikios clicking the tree or sending the invite aren't burdensome, dr. snarkypants, it's that any time a family member wants to add info it's "wait, how do i get to the family tree again?" giving it a unique URL would make it really easy to remember. geni.com/[familyname] or something like that. separately, this type of functionality could make the tree editable by people who may have family info (neighbors, etc) but who aren't part of your family tree and therefore can't get an invite.

Lo It would be, in my opinion, a major violation to have non-family members able to see Private Profiles this way -- and even more so to be editing them. And since most Family Trees are overlapping with the Family Trees of other folks - definitely very bad idea. (re: folks outside the family, such as neighbors, having family info - I have repeatedly argued against Geni's defaulting living Profiles outside close-ish family to Public - and have been assured by Geni-Team members that the only info folks outside the family would likely know is Public Info -- please try hitting them over the head with the fact that this is just not always so!!)
For your family members who have received an invite and logged in, never logged out: If you copy the URL atop your Tree (ie URL showing there after you click Tree) - and send to your family members(with appropriate e-mail Subject Line, so it will be easy for them to re-find) - will this by any chance work for what you/they are looking for?
