Have you checked the obvious place, your account settings which in most web pages are in a menu or window you get when clicking on your name, - for Geni in the upper right corner of every Geni window?
You also find links to help and wiki pages at the bottom of every page.
My Account settting only shows that I have the Basic Plan, however the "Free Trial" icon appears here too. It does show part of my credit card information I gave when signing up for the Free Trial offer, so I'm assuming that I am signed up. Could you or someone there please confirm this? I did not go through PayPal to sign up for this offer so the help info given to cancel via Paypal does not appear to pertain to my situation. Why does it have to be so hard to cancel this option? Thank you for any help.

Cancel what?
If your account setting shows that you have the basic plan, that is what you have, so there is no Pro trial to cancel, but double check your Geni Premium Account setting (http://www.geni.com/account_settings/premium_account)
If you have stored your credit card info in your account setting (can be used for more options like gifts etc, not only for premium subscription) you can remove that info in your Billing Information setting (http://www.geni.com/account_settings/credit_cards).
As a precaution I personally I always delete my credit-card info on a site when there is no immediately use for it anymore.
If you simply want to close your account you select Close Account (http://www.geni.com/account_settings/close_account). As far as I can see you are a part of a shared tree with a lot of other close relatives that is Geni users, so closing your account will not delete the tree you are a part of, and management of your profile will go back to the one who invited you and eventually managed profiles will go to your closes relative that is a Geni user, unless you select to give them to someone else.
