Open Tree-View Profile Matches In New Tab/Window

Apologies if this has already been submitted, but I didn't find any outstanding tickets.

I hate continually losing my place when trying to approve something, especially when I'm trying to juggle a few branches at once.  This current system severely disrupts my workflow.

For the record, it already opens in a new tab for Record Matches and Smart Matches.  It's just profile matches where it doesn't do it.  If it's deliberately set up that way because you think users find that easier, a) I disagree, as a user, and b) can you at least give us a preference setting to change that?

  How a link is processed is by default controlled by the browser, not the web page.
  I suggest that you read the help section for the browser you are using to see if there is an option to set so that clicking a link starts a new tab.

  In Google Chrome which I am using most the is at least such an option and holding the Ctrl key down when clicking a link gives the same effect.
  Try it on the browser you are using.

  I actually already have that setting checked in my browser, and I do understand how target=_new/_blank works, but I think you might have missed this part: "For the record, it already opens in a new tab for Record Matches and Smart Matches.  It's just profile matches where it doesn't do it."

  So if the other two match options are opening in a new tab, and it's only this one that isn't, that says to me that it's designed to open in the same tab.  That's what I'm proposing we change.

  Ashley, I prefer to have the option to control how to open a match individually by holding the Ctrl key down for those I want to open in a new tab. I would dislike it if the web page forced that  action.

  So your proposal would be to open all three in the current tab, instead of the existing set-up of tree matches in the current tab and Smart Matches and Record Matches in a new tab?

  No, what I say is that I don't want a setting that prevents you from using standard browser features as you can today. I really dislike web-sites that override standard browser behavior.

  I have it in  my fingertips that holding the Ctrl key down when clicking a link will open it in a new tab, holding Shift opens it in a new window and just clicking it opens it in the current window.

  Bjorn, I don't think that is the case with Flash as it's not really a hyperlink - it's a click event which is programable.  I believe you have to program Flash to handle the click event to check if ctrl is down and then open in new target, else just open.  I agree that it should be consistent either way, either they all open as new windows or not.  I always have that "Open in new window" check in the preferences so it opens in a new window, so I never noticed it.

  Which browser(s)?  I use Firefox and even with that preference selected, the tree matches still open in the same window.  I assumed it was something to do with Flash that's causing it to override my preferences.

  I wonder if I should have posted this as a bug report instead...I can't see how this is intentional on Geni's part.

  I've used Chrome and Firefox and they both work fine for me.  Just tested both...
