I often create profiles for cousins or family members that sign in may or may not add their own related profiles then seem to go inactive on geni. Requests for updates, merges, etc. go unanswered. There should be a feature that allows them to delegate their managed profiles to a designee or should automatically delegate to the person that originally created their tree. Once they have been inactive for some a period of time, e.g., 12 months, the delegate should automatically be assigned/created. For example the inactive user could be notified via email that their profile or tree has been inactive for 12 montha and the designated delegate will be assigned unless they logon and reactivate their account or assign a different delegate. The delegate would be notified of the action and be allowed to accept.

Bjørn P. Brox Take a closer look In the Actions menu on the user-profile if you suspect an abandoned tree.
If the tree is abandoned (not logged in for 9 months) you will find an Abandoned Tree entry in that menu. Selecting that command will delegate the profiles to an active family member.

I believe the Delegates function can be added as an extension to the Abandoned Tree feature. It's a more directed why to transfer profiles in case the user have not been active for 9 months. We know exactly who in our family member(e.g. 2nd/3rd cousing) that is really active in expanding the tree rather than just login but does nothing. If the delegate list is empty, then pass it to an active family member.
And just to give my opinion on it, the Abandoned Tree feature does help to transfer those profiles to a new active family member. It does help when the new managers able to solve all those pending merges.However active doesn't mean they are actively working on their trees. I had been reporting all those abandoned trees whenever I found one during my research. But a lot of that new active managers doesn't even respond to my message and also helping any of the merges.

Brox The most important by getting an additional manager (the original are not removed) is that he/she might respond to collaboration requests (or family group if the issues is on private profiles) so you can resolve the issues yourself. With active family group member Geni only test last login, and the new manager (or any you want to assign yourself) are probably not interested in resolving the merge issues, simply because these issues was where there already before executing the Abandoned tree command.
When you use the Abandoned Tree command (or notice that someone else have done that) you should send the new manager a message and explain the situation and offer your help to resolve the merge issues by accepting a collaboration request. -

Seems Facebook had already roll out similar functions. A user able to directly assigned who he want to give permissions to access his own profile.

Jeff Keith Prevéy I have sent a lot(100+) of merge requests to 100s of managers. Some are over 2 years old. I am not getting any responses. I understand the issue about inactive managers and the reassignment of others to the profile. Is there anything I can do to managers to respond to the requests?
