 How about letting the user make their own custom locations

For example:

my family have a farm with history running back 400 years.

I would like to make a custom location for this farm with a lot of information to it.

 

 

 NAME of place

FOUNDED

BUILDER

MODERN ADDRESS

LOT NUMBER

PICTURES

LINK DIFFERENT PROFILES TO THIS PLACE AND THEIR ROLE (also done automaticly for those with adresses matching the MODERN ADDRESS field)

GPS LOCATION

HISTORY

TODAYS OWNER/INHABITANTS

EARLIER OWNERS/INHABITANTS

 

 

 

 

Also make this place search-able for any users by NAME or MODERN ADDRESS

  Geni uses the Google API to look  up locations.  What you could do is put in the address that gets closest to the farm location, and then add the name of the farm as the "Place Name" (the top-most detail field when you expand the "location" field to view all the 'parts' of the location.

  Your example would be a nice Geni "Project" ... not only can you put the history of the location into the Project's Description, you can also add profiles of people who lived or worked on the farm, and have discussions about stories associated with the farm, and various media showing different aspects of the farm!
