I'm not inclined to try any more merges, even w known relatives. One I tried rendered my tree almost unusable with clutter. I'm only interested in my direct line ancestors, not every blessed cousin! Please give us a way to turn off merges (or at least make them invisible when I look at my tree). Or, how about if we can see and add the individuals selectively?

Eldon Clark (Geni volunteer curator) Robert, one direct line is not what Geni is about. It is about one tree so you can not turn off merges. You can go to your tree and select direct ancestors only if that is what you want.

Isabel Jill Crabtree Thank you Eldon,
That helped me. And that would be on the tree view, preferences tab lower center right and check the direct ancestors only box lower left.

Sherre Ann Chapin Dear Geni help team,
Merges are a nightmare. I do not want any merges. I have spent 18 years documenting ancestors with proven resources and documentation. What a waste of time for me to prove this only to have Geni let someone merge to my tree and delete the work. Even if you look at two profiles side by side, Geni is such a mess and very unclear on how my tree would be effected if I allow a merge to take place. UGH!!! Please find another way to do.

Geni Support Team H Sherre, Geni is a collaborative family tree website, where users are working together to build a single, shared family tree of the world. Merging does not delete data from profiles and wrong merges can be reversed by a Curator. If someone is vandalizing the tree, then you may report them by emailing us at misconduct@geni.com .
If you want to be in full control of your family tree, then perhaps Geni is not the right place for you. You may be happier using MyHeritage instead, where you can maintain an isolated, private family tree under your full control.
