There are a lot of matches and Smart matches listed that do not add new information. The matches may be valid but when researching it is quicker if matches that do not add are not included in the list. Could excluding these matches be an optional feature?

Rebecca Arlana Thompson I purchased a Pro account with Geni to manage our family tree. We now have almost 290 names registered.
I am getting complaints about the matching feature. Our family doesn't want to use it. We don't want reports run on the names of the people joining the family tree. It's a deterrent. Many are older and just don't want their information shared.
Is there a way to turn the feature off? Many of our family members refuse to even enter their birth dates - because of the feature.
Please advise.

Jeff, Geni Curator Rebecca, the matches are a one way feature and no reports are run. The Smart and Record matching technology compares the information to the MyHeritage (Geni's parent company) index records and offers it as source information or ways to gain additional information about the genealogy. It's not public for living profiles. On tree matches, we're trying to create a single world tree, so if their are duplicate profiles on Geni for any given family, we want to merge those into a single branch, which is particularly important for living members so they can better control their information. In any case, there is no way to turn off matching, but you could turn off the notifications: https://www.geni.com/account_settings/notifications
Uncheck the option "Email me when Geni finds new matches for my tree".
