Create Corresponding Timeline Event When Approving Location Record Matches

When approving Record Matches that already have a location *with date* indexed -- for example, U.S. Federal Census records -- please automatically create a Timeline event to match.  It would promote use of the Timeline feature and automate more documentation in the tree.  It would also make Geni more consistent with other genealogy sites and programs, which typically display locations/dates in chronological lists.  And, it's another incentive for purchasing the Record Matches package.

 

I am attaching a screenshot showing what I mean...since we already know from indexed info that Estelle lived in Adair, Missouri in 1910, Geni should automatically make a "1910 - Lived in Adair, Missouri" event with the Census record attached to it.

 

You could create Timeline events for location records without indexed dates and display the usual question marks, but I don't think that's a necessary use of resources unless it's convenient for you.

  Ashley this is an excellent feature request.  Well thought through.  I and others would find it  a very great help.  I support for all the reasons you give.

  Even better if already approved Location Record Matches can produce a corresponding timeline event - i.e. not just new approvals.

  Thanks, David!  I agree that it would be great if it could be applied retroactively, though I'd settle for it only being available going forward if that's a compromise that would help make the feature happen.

  An example benefit of this would be clarification of probable birth locations when references for a child have conflicting information.

  Would also need to think about what happens when you remove a record match.  eg you linked the wrong census record and are now correcting the error.  Would the corresponding timeline event be removed automatically, or would you have to go in manually to do that?

  I love the timeline feature and wish more people would use it. Anything that encourages better use of this feature gets two thumbs way up from me. 

  I often point people to the time when there is a question of paternity or maternity. It a child was born when the mother was 3, or after the mother has died, we know there is an error. If someone is counted on a census in Kentucky in 1840, it is unlikely he was counted on a census in Arkansas the same year.

  So, you see what an incredible benefit it would be to have important documents already in the time line.
