Hello there,
I'm new to Geni, as are some family members with whom I've been building our family tree. We're concentrating on completing our tree in the traditional sense, meaning all ancestors and family members with our surname, plus their spouses married into the family.
Today I discovered that a handful of spouses already appeared in their own family trees on Geni, and that these trees have somehow been combined with the family tree that we are working on. By checking one profile marked as duplicate, it appears that a helpful curator may have done this.
Although it's absolutely wonderful to discover all these other families we're related to and indeed are descendents of, it does result in our family tree (people sharing our last name) being completely swamped and spread out to the point of becoming very hard to view let alone work on.
Under preferences I can select "direct ancestors", but that hides all relatives with our family name in other branches (which is what we want to work on) while still resulting in a very spread-out display.
So what I'm hoping, is that there's a way I can restrict/filter the tree display to only include family members in all branches that have our last name, plus their spouses, and have those little green tree icons to indicate there are relatives of those spouses. (I see these tree icons on some spouses, but also on some branches of our family, so I don't understand by which criteria these currently appear.)
If this is already possible (for a free account) then I hope somebody would be so kind as to tell me how. If not, then I hope this could be an additional and very useful filter to add to Geni. (And one, I might add, that is completely in line with how family genealogies traditionally tend to be published.)
Our thanks in advance for any and all help!
Best regards -- Paul Vreede
