I have a GEDCOM file with more than 2500 profiles and am considering Geni as option to upload it to. Before purchasing a membership/subscription with Geni, I'd like questions answered around profile privacy.
1. Is there a way to globally set all profiles to private? Or do they have to be done individually.
2. I currently collaborate with family members on the free version of Geni. I am the manager on many of the profiles, but I don't see the option to change the privacy on them. Why not?
You do not need to be a paying member to import a GEDCOM, but is does help finding duplicates (as a basic user you can only find your own profiles and profiles of collaborators with the Geni search screen and can only use an external search engine like Google to find public profiles)
You can only set profiles in your own family group to private (living profiles are private by default). Only profile born in the last 150 (or may be 125) years are made private by default.
Profiles born more than 150 years ago can be made public by curators.
You cannot change the privacy for living profiles. Not sure if you are allowed to make profiles born more than 150 years ago private (if so, probably only those in your family group)
