Doing family "Adkins" tree. (Of Virginia, NC & Oklahoma) Big family, long history.. Including Native American family.
Problem, for instance - mom's drivers' license listed her Adkins. But her birth certificate listed her Atkins.
Same family! People using both Adkins & Atkins. (Adkins/Atkins?)
Understood: "Only one spelling can be listed in Name field of the database"
But if I want to 'search' for both spellings? Doing double the work..
Put the spelling you think is more correct in the Surname field and put the other spelling/spelling in the Also Known As field. You (and others) will be able to search for both spellings. It also works in Tree/Smart/Record Matching as far as I know.

So put 'Adkins' in the Surname field. And 'Atkins' in the Also Known As field? Vice versa. Don't need the slash (/)..
See others (search) online list Adkins [space] Atkins.
