Too many unknown "relatives"

I really do not want to find matches to my stepmother's first cousin's wife, when I've never had a stepmother!  HOW do I stop people from hijacking my tree and adding people so far removed, that any connection to them is that they were in a same country!   I've checked all of my settings and I cannot find the way to cut these tree-stealing parasitic people off; they are too lazy to build their own trees. I am angry! I have asked GENI for answers...nothing!  I think I'll just control, alt, delete!

Unless someone has the answer for me; I cannot proceed with my tree data, with apx. 3,000+ strangers lurking at every branch!

Help!

  Hi! 

  The Geni tree is a worldwide tree, not an individual one. It grows to be very large when existing trees merge together. The whole project aims to build a database where every documented person has only one profile.

  We're not supposed to build individual trees on Geni since this would lead to a jungle of double-triple-quadruple and more profiles. You build your own tree up to the point where you find other profiles matching your ancestors / relatives. Then you link them to your own tree. We cannot choose the family we're born into. Likewise, we cannot choose to opt out branches of the tree only because we don't know the people in them.

  Recently I got a request to approve the unification of duplicate profiles of my grandmother's second cousin's ex-wife. Obviously this was people I have never heard of and I delegated the request to a user with a closer connection to this branch of family. Moreover I was notified of five edited profiles around this particular 2nd cousin with conflicting details... I can't do anything about it, only message the profile creators hoping that they will eventually read your message and take action.
