While we as family researchers do not want to mess with someone's hard work it is not illegal. I have requested that his father be made public as he was born over 150 years ago.

Geni is a world tree so there is always someone working on public profiles which are usually Curators but can be anyone. I work on profiles all over the tree where ever there is something that needs fixed etc.

All profiles should have sources attached to prove the information that is stated on the profile. This will also allow you to request that the profile be locked so that the wrong information does not get attached. But without sources to prove this or if it is incorrect then it can/will be corrected.
I believe this is probably what happened. If you want you can also post your concern in the following discussion where maybe a curator can be of more assistance to you

Now what I do is start a discussion (click on Discussions Tab) on the profile in question or send a message to other profile managers.
This guy just requested to add me to a family group to share data with no explanation as to why. I have never heard of him. Upon checking he is apparently a distant relation, and by that I mean, 15 jumps. Geni administration need to examine the history of this account because by the odd behaviour and actions I believe it's probably been compromised.
