I have profiles for third cousins and their parents (2C1R) for many years for which someone on a spouse's family entered duplicates that show up on my end as private, half-siblings of duplicate third cousins that puts them outside of "close family". I see indications of duplicate profiles but if I click on the blue box indicating a duplicate, I get steered to signing up for a Pro Account for $149 plus tax. That's brand new - I've never been directed to a Pro account just to merge duplicates. I shouldn't have to sign up for Pro to merge duplicates. Nobody wants duplicates. I'm trying to help the system. The other manager's new profiles show up as Private, so I would assume my original profiles for the same person show up as Private to them. The only way I can think to resolve is to add this other person as a co-manager of my profiles, then ask them to merge, or ask them to add me as a co-manager to their duplicate profiles so I can then merge them. This seems like far too much trouble to merge profiles. Is this the only solution? Is there a better alternative? I refuse to pay for a Pro subscription to see duplicates that I already know are duplicates.

Geni Support Team Hi Charles, it sounds like you clicked on a Tree Match, which is a Geni Pro feature.
However, you are right that you do not need a Geni Pro subscription to merge, it just takes a few extra steps. You can send a request to merge to the manager of the other profile. If you can see the private duplicates in the tree, you can set up the request using the "Move Profile" feature in the tree. Charles Avrom Budman I see the private box in the tree, but this process doesn’t work. As mentioned, I can’t ask the manager of the private duplicate to merge because my profile is private to them, correct?
Isn’t the only solution as I suggested, either first invite the manager of the private duplicate to my profile, then ask them to merge, or ask them to invite me to co-manage their private duplicate, then I can merge?

Charles Avrom Budman Ok, my suspicion was correct. I had the manager of the duplicates add me as co-manager, then I was able to merge. Your suggestion was not correct or helpful since you cannot merge with someone else’s duplicate that appear as Private.
I also have a problem with your policy that a person in my family but at the distance limit, ie a third cousin, is Private when added as a duplicate by someone as manager who is not family. That creates unnecessary duplication that cannot be resolved without taking the steps I mentioned.
