Why is it possible, that my profiles are sometimes merged with other profiles without my consent or notification?

Patrick Kovacs I didn't really find an answer there.
I had to deal with a couple of incorrect merges in the past few months which could've been avoided if I'd gotten the merge for approval.

Job Waterreus It is a bit more complex, but this gives you an overview:
If the profiles are public all users can see the details and merge them (if they belong to the Geni World Tree).
If they are private and the birth is within the last 150 years only users within your family group group can merge them without needing an approval (other user cannot see any details).
When a profile has a birth date more than 150 years ago and is private a user can request to make it public in this discussion https://www.geni.com/discussions/217559. If the profile does not contain any data that can be deemed a privacy problem the request will be granted.
If a merge was incorrect you can ask to have it reversed in this discussion: https://www.geni.com/discussions/216411
There is some more info on Geni in these projects: https://www.geni.com/projects/Geni-Start-Here-Basics/17603 and https://www.geni.com/projects/A-to-Z-of-Help-Topics/38243

Patrick Kovacs Thanks for the clarification. Still, I think it would save a lot of troubles if permission were required in every case (at least as long as the profile manager is active).

Job Waterreus Geni sees active as being at least online once in the last 18 months, so that would not be very practical.
If a user does not respond to the request the requesting user would have to be very patient and keep a list to know when to try again.

Patrick Kovacs Well some sort of email about the merge at least, so I could check them out.
