Job Waterreus Did you do that by importing a GEDCOM into Geni?
If so the import will stop when it encounters a profile that may be already in Geni, so that you can judge if it is really a match.
Please check your GEDCOM page.
If the merge is confirmed to may want to cancel the import of that branch if that branch is already on Geni (otherwise all duplicates should be merged)
If you (or another user) merges a profile please check for data conflicts and please also solve those.
Be careful to check the privacy of any profiles without dates (Geni mostly will make them private so no details can be seen by most users preventing them from being merged even when they are duplicates)
Also please convert names to proper case if you use all caps (there is a setting https://www.geni.com/account_settings/name_preferences/ to show them in uppercase)
Please check the help info for Geni on https://www.geni.com/projects/Geni-Start-Here-Basics/17603 and https://www.geni.com/projects/A-to-Z-of-Help-Topics/38243
