1) a sound-like for name matches
2) a search by first name and exact birthdate matches to find female cousins who married (or to find the maiden name matches where maiden names would be unknown)
For the first point, my Estonian relatives in the 1800's got many different name variations depending on who was keeping records back then. Finding matches wouldn't happen between profiles unless the last names match exactly.
