Yesterday I tried to import a GEDCOM from ancestry.com, and it created a huge mess... added family members as their own siblings, etc. So I undid, deleted it completely, started again from scratch. But now, it is telling me it won't import GEDCOM because, after years of no matches, I suddenly have about 30 "tree matches" that must be "resolved"... IE, they want me to pay $100 for a "pro" membership, because that's the only way you can "resolve" matches. If I click "no thanks" it keeps me locked out of uploading the GEDCOM, it seems like this is set up to be a paid-only feature now without saying outright that it is. It's just strange, because it wasn't last night.
Is there no way around this? Geni is nice but, for my needs, not worth paying $100 for, and I'm a little rankled that it's claiming some other tree's info, that I have to pay to see, somehow prevents updating mine, and there's no way for me to say "just ignore the other tree, I don't need to know what it says, I have the correct info for my tree right here in this handy GEDCOM file that you won't look at." Am I done here? Thanks.

Job Waterreus You can import a GEDCOM as a basic user, but it is a little more complicated.
Geni tries to build on big Geni World Tree with for everyone just 1 profile, so when you are connected to the World tree you cannot speak about "my tree" anymore.
The importer stops when it finds a possible duplicate. If it really is a duplicate there is no need to import the profile unless it has additional info. Also there is a big change the branch will already be on Geni (the further back in time the bigger the change). So you could stop the import of that branch and the importer will go on importing other branches.
It could also be another user sees your imported profile and decides it is a duplicate and merges it. The import for that branch will then continue (and stop again for the next potential duplicate)
As a basic user in most cases you cannot see which profile Geni has found as a potential match so for basic users it takes extra effort.
There is some English help available, see https://www.geni.com/projects/Nederlandse-handleiding-GENI-voor-Dummies/13048#Engelstalige-hulp

Job Waterreus Also please collaborate with other users that are working in the same part of the tree. You can use the Geni search screen only to find profile you or one of your collaborators manages other searches will hit the pay wall (you can use Google search to find public profiles on Geni by adding site:geni.com to your Google search).
