On a person's profile, if you go to the "Timeline" tab, you will see a list of events for that person's life and their descendants accompanied by the year (and date, if provided).
However, sometimes exact dates are not available and we use "before", "after" or "between" two dates to narrow down the real date based on the available sources. For instance, I might know for sure that a person was alive in 1840, so in that case I'd enter the birth date as "before 1840". But in the timeline, it will just display "1840", and calculate all the "ages" based on that year. Same happens with "between" two dates, as only the first date will be shown and used for calculations.
Here's an example from one of my profiles:

The marriage is set as "between 1841 and 1850", however, only 1841 is shown. And the birth date is set as "before 1840", but only shown as "1840" and the ages in all events calculated from that value. Which leads to absurd values like being married being 1 year old.
