How to update relatives email

I have a relative who cannot get into her account on our Family Tree.  She has a profile with an old email and I was trying to change it for her.  Is there a way for me to update her email and will she able to get into her account after that?

  Her name is La Sharra  Bennett-Hill

  Myra, you should be able to add a new email now.

  I added the email and I got a pop up saying that the email is in use by another profile and a request to merge those profiles had been sent.  My cousin said she didn't receive anything.  Does she automatically get an email from Geni when I updated it or do I need to do something else for her to get signed in?
