Question (yet another) about deleting a tree and closing account

I want to delete my tree entirely and close my account.

There are lots of questions on this topic and no clear answers.

Can someone please confirm the following conclusion I have reached:
If I want to delete the whole tree, I must do it profile by profile i.e. go thru' the delete-a-person process several hundred times. I can then close the account and every trace of my Geni membership is gone. I fear this is true - but what a pain!!

If I simply try to close the account, I get just two options: (i) donate the tree to Geni or (ii) get some other person to do the delete job.  I want neither of these.

All sounds crazy, but, please, is it true?

Hoping someone can shed light on this issue.

  George - I'd say your options may be even more limited.  You're not in an isolated tree.  You're in a shared family tree with other members connected to it.  Thus, it is no longer your tree to delete, but communal - you contributed your work and now it's shared among other family members.  It's since been merged and contributed to by other members. Geni considers those connected have the right to retain it, even if you were the one who originally built it.  But if you no longer want to be a contact or manager, you can turn that role over to another family member or to Geni.

  These were terms agreed to by using Geni.  It states that in using the site, you agree that you will not delete Content in the Shared Family Tree except to correct inaccurate or offensive data.  Deleting the tree profile by profile is probably considered willful destruction of a shared tree.   https://www.geni.com/company/terms_of_use

  Thanks for that Jeff. Excuse please by naivety but how do I find out with whom the tree is shared? It was all done many years ago and my memory is not in good shape!!

  Desmond Keating is also in a duplicate tree that should probably be merged in.

  Posted a connection earlier but our connection in world tree was an invalid one due to a bad merge last year.  I undid the merge.

  Thanks again Jeff. It's not really about leaving Geni. My original tree was put up many years ago and abandoned. It had many errors and mistakes. Since then I have done a lot of corrective work on a local PC based system. To get the Geni system to the same state as my current version would take too much editing work. Much simpler (I thought) to delete the tree completely (hence this thread) and then upload the new, current, correct Gedcom file to a new account. That was my thinking. Still is!!

  Geni has disabled GEDCOM uploads - they did this many many years ago.  People would upload 10,000 profile GEDCOMs, 9,900 of which were already on Geni.  Being a one world tree, we'd have to merge them all in.  It ended up being way more work, thus every world tree site (WikiTree, FamilySearch, Geni) has disabled GEDCOM upload.

  Happy to help you correct any relationship errors you see.  Your tree is pretty wide, but doesn't go back too far.

  I'll be in my mid 80s this year, and there's no telling how long I'll be able to continue being the managers of my profiles.  Before I'm gone, is there a way I can transfer my profiles to my cousin?  We are collaborators on our Philippine Ancestral Gaddang Tribe Genealogy.

  Hi, wonder if you could help me, please. I loaded in the direct ancestral line/names from me to my great-x4-grandfather. Then I start with him and work my way down back to me (I have a paper document set up that way with everyone on it), entering all the names, etc. and other information.
  When I got down to my father, I discovered that somehow he was put under the wrong parents. I've since removed my mother and others, I renamed my father DELETE ME (lol), and my name is still in the start box. I've also loaded in the correct names in the correct places, and the tree on my father's side is complete. I would appreciate it if you could delete/remove my father (I renamed him: Delete Me) and my name. Since the tree always opens on me, I presume I'm the anchor point, or something like that. Please transfer that responsibility to the other entry with my name. In the other entry by my name, there will be lot of other names (my daughter, and my mother's side of the tree which I'm loading now) so hopefully it will be easy to find. Thanks for any help you can provide.

  I did NOT at any time subscribe via payment to Geni. I NEVER subscribe to any service advertised as "free" that suckers one in only long enough after sign-in to say "if you want to do anything, see anything, or make any use whatsoever of this--you will have to pay."
  
  Similarly, I did not provide any information about my family or ancestors--yet the one entry you did show me--for Josephine Barton-- is clearly from my own genealogy files, given the way it's written. Did Geni obtain it from Legacy (if so, I will certainly have a great deal to say to them)!
  
  In the meantime, I would like this account and all other information associated with it permanently deleted from Geni. There is a good deal of PII in my files, for living relatives, and I will hold Geni accountable if it is compromised. Close this account within 5 (five) business days (on or before 9 March 2018) or I will report this incident to the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission.
