clearing false connections

Hi, 

Please give some advice and direction on how to 'unlink' a line that is incorrect.

I have found a connection that apparently leads to a 'false and non-fiction person' and I need to un-associate with that line.  It was a connection that I did not personally make but Geni has assumed is correct.  :(   (Ragar????)

This link and the information leading to it is disappointing as it leads to a person that is not my direct line eg. 22 great grandfather or whatever.  This also makes me wonder how reliable a lot of the information stored in people's trees, that it seems to throw up these false leads, and how easy it must be for people to just add false information in trees.

Someone named Remi pointed this untruth connection out to me and others, so I would like to fix this and disassociate with that connection as soon as possible.

  Hej Julie. I have the same problem. Not long ago my ancestors began to diasapear from 13.000 to 6000, then 3500 and yeasterday I now have only 1500 direkt ancestors. I suspect, that tomorrow I will have only my now dead mother. My mothers family are from Norway and the family are well known back in time, where all my great grandmothers and -fathers were kings and Queens. I hapenened  last year too, but not that bad as for now. How is it possible, that Geni cannot see, that something is not right.

  Thank you for commenting.   Sorry to hear about your mother.  I wrote for help to fix the problem/link.

  It is frustrating that a person who does not know me or my integrity can assume that I am creating the 'link' issue.  In the discussion that occurred earlier today, I felt that I was been spoken down to and chastised for being naughty for even thinking that I could have ancestors from over there. 

  Remi(?) seemed to think I shouldn't have allowed it to occur, but I don't think he/she could understand that it was the linking process of Geni - not me.  I don't think Remi actually understands that I am in Australia so I just can't pop on over for a coffee and visit the archives in other countries to check out those records.

  I do have ancestors going back to Queen Elizabeth's mother as a direct line and then it continues on from there through royalty.    

  My great grandfather moved to Australia around 1860, married and had many children.  To make him 'acceptable' he had to anglicise and change his name to sound more British, so I am not sure what it was prior to coming to Australia.  

  Each of his children he told that he was of Danish royalty. In 1903, with failing health he had to complete a form to become an Australian citizen. The form had '... of European descent ...'    My great grandfather put a heavy line through those words and then he wrote 'Danish' above. 

  He seemed to be very proud of his Danish heritage.  I cannot find ancestry over there because he would not speak much about where he came from so his children could not pass down much information, except it was swedenburg(??). I don't know the reason why he came to Australia, whether he was running away from something or whether at that time he thought he would make it rich because of the discovery of gold rush.  So it is a real brick wall.  The links back to the royal ancestors come from his wife - my great grandmother, via England.

  Also, I had my own DNA test done through FamilyTreeDNA which was my maternal line which links directly back to England, and also Ireland and Norway.   But once again it is hard because in Australia we don't have ready and free access to overseas records to all countries.  

  With my maternal line going directly back to England I have actually verified this as correct as I have all the certificates and paperwork and even know where in England they actually lived prior to coming to Australia.

  So I sit at my computer trying not to upset Remi who seems to get really worked up when anyone speaks up about 'belonging to a connection over there'. lol

  The problem, like you have said, is that Geni is not picking up that there is a problem and therefore Geni is not registering it as a major concern that needs fixing.  I am sure you and I are not the only two that realise this.  :)
