I want to add extra generations to my Geni Tree but having arthritis of hands makes it very difficult to type very long. I have 1385 names on my tree, just cannot physically now retype all that info. Help how can I upload my GEDCOM file to GENI.

Ronald Lyster Apparently this site doesn't permit this. Anyone with a serious interest in genealogy will want this feature. Re-entering all that information isn't really an option.

Chris SCOTT I to have a similar problem and i have 2245 people in my database.
Is it going to be possible in the near future to upload GEDCOM to geni
-
Brian Kirkpatrick I have the same need... For a projects based site...it's sad to see that the side doesn't allow imports of the common GEDCOM file... really frustrating. I'll be looking elsewhere for an open forum.

Simon Defrenet Did someone find a solution that answer this need to upload a large family tree and maps it to a common tree?

Jim Henderson Geni used to allow the import of GEDCOM files, but that led to so many duplicate profiles that it took the volunteer C a huge amount of time to fix up the mess.
But there is a method, called SmartCopy, that lets you import a whole family at a time -- parents, siblings, spouses and children. You then have to check the results carefully and merge any duplicate profiles. Remember that geni is a cooperative site for the whole world, and each person's profile should exist only once here. Other sites, like Ancestry and MyHeritage, let people make their own trees without reference to other people's work.
I'm sure you'll find many of the people in "your tree" are already in "our tree" at geni.com, so your job is to match them and add other supporting evidence where you have it. You might be surprised at how many other branches you discover.
I have outlined how to do this in another help topic. Please start reading at the third post, and follow all the links.
https://help.geni.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360002964354-Adding-a-GED-FILEWe could put our screens together and I could talk you through getting started with this if you like. Just send me a message through the system.
Wishing you good success as you bring in your relatives.

Jim Henderson Sorry, I meant Curators.

David Grant am I correct that you have to use smart copy for every member of your family viewing each individual profile ? I have 30k people in my family tree, that would take a lifetime
-
Jeff, Geni Curator No, it does a family at a time. So it would add children, siblings, parents. Then you would navigate to the parent and run it again to get the next generation. You can add hundreds of profiles relatively quickly. Keep in mind that the reason this is done is because Geni likely has most of your 30k profiles already and we don't want to duplicate existing branches - we merge into them.

Jim Henderson David, I suggest you watch the video about SmartCopy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30gRnmEfs7c
to see clearly how it works. As Jeff said, many of your relatives are probably in geni already, so it's important to check after you import each family, looking particularly for blue markers, which show that a person is there already. You can then request a merge between the profile that you just imported and the profile that was in geni already.Remember, at Ancestry and MyHeritage we can talk about "my tree", but at geni we talk about "our tree", because we are working on a single tree for the whole world, and ideally each person will be represented only once in the whole tree.
The video is a bit out of date now, because SmartCopy now works in other browsers apart from Google Chrome (thanks again, Jeff :-) Also, Basic members of geni can now use it, as well as Pro users.

Jim Henderson Querido Francisco,
