Relationship tab not showing up on some profiles

I have noted that the relationship tab and some other tabs are missing on some profiles of deceased persons. These profiles have in common that they are outside of my family group, but are administered by people in my family group. I have full access to all the tabs for living profiles in this category. I discovered this phenomena by coincidence when I changed a living to deceased. Then, the tabs disappeared. Later, I did the opposite for an other profile, and the opposite happened.

The first time I discovered this was when I changed the following profile to deceased: https://www.geni.com/people/Dagfinn-Mjåseth/6000000037453596914

I believe that this is a bug, and I hope it can be fixed.

  You're absolutely correct -- the permissions system isn't protecting any information in this case, it's just forcing you to make an erroneous edit (deceased -> living or public -> private) to change the data, then hopefully you remember to change the profile back to deceased / public.  We'll change our permissions system to grant full edit permissions on public profiles to the Family Group of the managers (in addition to collaborators, as it is now).  Give us a week or so to test this out and make sure there are no unintended consequences.

  For public profiles outside your family group, it is normal that you would have basic editing rights on profiles you don't manage. This is resolved by sending a collaboration request to one of the managers (via the Actions menu on the managers profile). Alternatively, you could send a Family Group invite which also gives them permissions to your private profiles.

  I think you should read what I am writing once again. The profiles I am talking about are managed by someone who is already in my family group. I have full access to the living profiles, but when I mark them as deceased, the tabs disappear.

  Remember: It is the relationship to the profile that counts, not to the manager.

  You have to collaborate to even your own father or brother if he had added public profiles outside your own family group range you want full access to.

  Are you sure that this is the intention? I think it is very strange to have full access to "living" profiles managed by family members, while having only basic editing rights if the same profiles are marked as deceased. That doesn't make sense to me. But it seems to work exactly this way at the moment. I have a manager in my family group who I am collaborating with, and I have full access to his profiles whether they are "dead" or "alive".

  To sum up: If I want to view or edit private profiles outside my family, inclusion in my family group is what I need. But if I want to edit public profiles outside my family, that doesn't matter anymore. Then, I have to collaborate to get the same editing rights.

  I have been quite active on Geni since I became a member one and a half year ago, and thought that I knew how to use it. However, I find that I am still learning... :-)

  Correct, - for profiles outside your family group you need extended family group access for private profiles and collaboration with a manager for public profiles if you want full edit access.
  
  Personally I have 849 extended family group members for mutual access to private profiles and 2432 collaborators which gives full mutual access to public profiles, so I would manage quite well with access rights without being a curator.

  It's a question about trust and so far so many collaborators and extended family group members has not caused any problems, and if so, it is easy to cut that access, compared to if you give access by accepting management requests.

  I appreciate very much the official answer from customer support on the top of this thread. This will make things easier, and as pointed out this also makes the most sense since in these cases the permission system isn't protecting any information after all.

  We've released the fix.  The problem turned out to be easier than initially suspected, it was just a bug in the logic that decides whether or not to show the edit-relationships tab.

  I can now see the relationships tab, but when I click on it I just get an error message that I do not have access to that page.

  It also seems like I can now see the edit relationships tab for any public Geni profile. So this fix is not the correct one.

  This time, it seems to work. I can edit the marriage date, and the boxes where I can remove parents or partners are visible. (I have not tried to change parents or to remove relationships to see what happens).

  However, I can't set the order of the partners. For a second, I see a small box with "window.location.href="error"" inside, then I get the "usual" error message that I do not have permission to view that page. Except the partnership tab, it is still like simple editing rights. It is not possible to set the birth order, and the other tabs (that I usually never use) are still missing.

  The fix also affects any public Geni profile. I then tried to add a marriage date for a more or less random profile with nothing to do with me or any members in my family group (I did know the marriage date) to see what happened. This edit was successful.

  Since my last comment, I have also been able to set the order of the relationships. The only thing that I still can't do is to remove a relationship, then I get an error message that I don't have access to that page.

  I now notice that I in fact have full editing rights of public profiles managed by family group members, just as promised :-) I have so far not tried to split the tree via profiles managed by family members. My last comment was about editing relationships of public profiles in general, since I did not know that the change of editing rights of profiles managed by family group members was actually done.
