I just signed up for Geni to join a R-Z367 project. But, when I found that I can't load my GEDCOM, I changed my mind. I don't have time or energy to reenter all people in my tree. I don't use FamilySearch anymore except for searching, because the "shared" entry crap allowed people to change my documented entry. Send me email when change dumb policy.

Jeff, Geni Curator A shared collaborative world tree is the main reason people use Geni over other sites like Ancestry or MyHeritage. It's not going to change and I think you're greatly undervaluing the Wikipedia model, but it's not for everyone. https://www.geni.com/worldfamilytree/learn-more
As for GEDCOM, there is a extension called SmartCopy that can copy over profiles a family at a time that makes connecting your existing tree pretty easy. But it is expected that it would be connected - avoiding duplication is an express requirement of using the tool. https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783
