The system seems non-responsive when I finally (!) get to the record that needs updated parents. Yeah, it's ages ago, but is there a bug or other issue when trying to add these ancient records?

Job Waterreus You can only go to profiles to or a collaborator manages via the Geni search when you are logged on on Geni.So collaborating with others working in the same part of the tree is very useful for basic users.
Those older profiles are public so you use use an external search engine like Google to go directly to them (for Google add site:geni.com to your search to limit the search to geni.com).
You can also start a second session on Geni where you do not log on and use that to search (and use the link from that session in the logged on session to make changes).
