Cannot assign gender when adding a family member

I am trying to add family members i.e. daughter's spouse and cannot add a gender, but it is a required field to the form.

  Samuel, I'm not able to reproduce what you describe from tree view or profile view.  The first thing you do is choose a gender by selecting Add Husband or Add Wife, which defaults the male / female gender but still allows you to change it when the screen comes up to enter details.  Maybe you could take a screenshot to better explain where you're having an issue.
