Hello,
This has happened to me several times now: I'm told I'm only related to someone through marriage when in fact that individual is a cousin.
To wit: "Geoffrey Trussel de Vere is your third cousin 14 times removed:" http://www.geni.com/people/Geoffrey-Trussel-de-Vere/6000000000615163464. When I go to his son Horace de Vere, 1st Baron Vere of Tilbury's profile, what I should find is that he's my 4th cousin, right? Whereas I'm told "Horace de Vere, 1st Baron Vere of Tilbury is your 6th cousin 9 times removed's wife's father." Clearly the reason for this is because I'm also cousins with his daughter's husband. So why isn't Geni giving me the closest relationship? This will lead people to believe that they aren't related to people who they actually ARE related to!
This is a serious shortcoming with your software; can you please discuss the matter with your programmers? All of us who have noble ancestors are going to have trouble with this because they married their cousins of varying degrees so frequently. I've got 4 separate family lines that interconnect over and over again, and I know I'm not the only one. We ought to be able to get the correct information here on Geni, don't you think?
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Amy Irene Anderson
