  You're the closest active Geni member to her. If someone abandons their branch due to inactivity, Geni makes sure that someone is still a contact in case a family member or descendant wants to reach out or in case a merge is needed. You may not know them and that's fine, but you were the closest family to help.

  Geni should ask that member if he or she would like to or be prepared to take over the management of a family branch.
