You used to be able to invite a friend (now called a follower) to see your profile even if they weren't a family member. How is this done currently?

Pam Wilson, Curator Hi Karen. As I understand it, now you can either be a family group member (which allows access and edit rights to your profiles) or a collaborator (which doesn't allow tree view rights). Geni unfortunately removed the "friend" category. Following is not the same thing, but anyone can follow you by going to your profile and clicking "Follow." This allows them to see your public news in their news feed.

Starr Lynn Peoples That's unfortunate. I found the friend feature very helpful.

Luc Radu Is there any way to give to someone OUTSIDE one's family group access to my documents? The "friend" used to allow that (also access to profiles.

Permanently deleted user Geni Friends are now called "Followers" You may invite people to Follow you on Geni. To do so, login to your Geni account, go here:http://www.geni.com/list/followers/ and import your address book under where it reads "People You May Know".
Once you do this, we will locate any people who may already be on Geni and let them know you are looking to "Follow" (or "Friend" them). Otherwise, we will send them an email to join Geni so you may follow each other. Once they accept your request, you will both be following each other.
Also, please note that any profiles you had previously bookmarked are now profiles you Follow. Furthermore, any profile you add to Geni gets followed by you automatically.
If you no longer wish to follow that person/profile, you may click "Unfollow".
