I have tried to send birthday greetings though the free application I have but you will not allow me to get to the normal page. Why is this happening! Have you changed top a pay only site! Not very friendly!

Karin Phelps Murray I was an early enthusiastic and prolific user of Geni and built a huge family tree, in the process getting numerous other people enthused about geni.com. Then I accepted the advice displayed in my geni account to merge my extensive tree with a relative's tree. This resulted in gross, extensive errors in my tree due to the many errors in that relative's tree. I contacted Geni to resolve the problems but they would not fix it, so in disgust I stopped using the site. Now another relative has asked me to enter a date of death for one of the hundreds of relatives that I created on geni.com. However the site has changed and I seem to no longer have the ability to add this basic information even though the site acknowledges that I "own" the dead person's profile. I can't find any help for this problem and am again disgusted with geni.com. Please provide easily accessed help for people like me. Karin

Geni Support Team Hello Maurice:
As of March 1, 2012 birthday and anniversary gifts are now free for everyone, so you are now able to send a gift with the greetings.

Hello Karin:
If a relative has passed away, and you do not see the option to update their living status on their profile, it is likely that your relative has claimed their profile with their email address. You may report the profile as deceased by clicking “Actions” on the profile page and select “Report.” Please include a brief comment in your report.. Once it is reported, birthday and anniversary reminders for your relative will be disabled.
Customer service will resolve the report by unclaiming the profile and updating the living status of the profile to deceased. Once the report is resolved, you and your family will be able to edit your relative’s profile.
