Even if you don't have access to that email account anymore the email is still valid to be used as a login ID to Geni, - as long as you remember the password used on Geni.
Just log in and change to the new email address in the account settings you find in the menu that pops up when you click on the user name in the upper right corner.
If you don't remember the password and does not have access to the email account for receiving a password reminder you have to ask Geni for help.

A few of my relatives have this problem - email account has changed, no access to previous email account and forgotten their Geni password.

Please refer your relatives to our F.A.Q. section on assistance with updating their email address when they no longer have access to the previous email account and do not recall their password:
If you no longer have access to the email address used on your Geni account and you are unable to recall your login information, you will be required to send an inquiry to subscriptions@geni.com for assistance with this.
Geni will then be able to remove your email address from your profile, where you will then be able to ask a relative in your tree to re-invite you back to your tree using your current email address.
*Note: If you were the only claimed/active Geni user in that tree and there is no one who can re-invite you, you will need to start over at Geni.com using your current email address.
