How do I send news to people on my tree?

  David, Go to your home page (http://www.geni.com/home) and post in the top box that says "Post your latest news here".  This will be visible to your family group and, I believe, your collaborators.

  I would recommend starting a Family Discussion instead since it gives you and your family an option to replay, and for your self a chance to delete it if you detects any errors.
