How are family members adding THEIR relatives, whom are NOT related to me, on to MY tree?

I thought I had not given anyone any permission to add to my personal tree. Now I see on my personal tree my first cousins, (on my mother's side) adding their first cousins (on their father's side), no relation to me and I would like to remove them from MY personal tree, my personal info. I do not want their info on my tree when I look at my tree that I spent many, many hours creating.

Much too confusing and I built this to be about MY family, I Gave no one permission to change or add or anything? HELP!

  Carol, Geni is a shared collaborative family tree.  It is designed and intended to be used how your cousins are using it.  When you invite family members into the tree (you gave permission) and it becomes a shared tree and it's their tree as much as it is your tree.  They can build and invite new family members.  We want them to build their tree, just as we want you to build yours.  You can set your viewing options and filtering to reduce your visibility.  You can change what you consider your family group to receive less news (http://www.geni.com/account_settings/family), also see notifications (http://www.geni.com/account_settings/notifications).  This is the way Geni works and the only help I can give is to help you filter and reduce what you consider noise.  If this is unacceptable, then Geni may not be the right site for you and you may want to consider MyHeritage, which is build for isolated trees.

  Hello,  I also have a number of people added by another person telling the tree I have different parents, siblings and so on.    I have not been able to manage to fix this.  It's mucked up my tree and I certainly was not aware of inviting anyone to do this.  Is there any way this can be fixed?

  Uh, sorry WHAT? "Private Response"? Wait this is a  C O M M U N I T Y   H E L P   forum?!? So, why the private message? I too, would like to know how to fix this problem. My understanding was that: I would invite people to VIEW ...MY (MY) family tree, I had no intention of inviting members to ADD to it. As a matter of fact I was under the impression that I was the "owner" of said tree, hence I was the only one whom could make changes/adds --but this is not the case.

  Jeff Gentes, if you can "privately fix" this dilemma (and it is a DILEMA) for Lynetten Beale why then have you basically told me right here: "OH WELL, this is the intention of GENI, of course this may not be YOUR intentions (as the owner of the TREE) but it is ours, --THE END"!

  That's not very helpful, not at all…

  I suggested a private message because helping her may involve providing private information about her family relationships that she may not wish to share in a public forum.  As for why I could help her, her problem was different.  She was listed incorrectly in her tree, having multiple parents and incorrect siblings.  She's need help with incorrect information in her tree.  This I can certainly help fix.  You're issue was described differently from what I understand.  You didn't appear to need help fixing an error in your tree - you wanted to remove other people that were invited to the tree.  This would be against our Terms of Use http://www.geni.com/company/terms_of_use .  Once someone is invited into a tree or a tree is merged with another tree, it becomes a shared tree where you collaborate together.  If you want a private tree, then Geni is probably not the right software and I'd recommend MyHeritage.

  Carol, I could disconnect you from your tree if that would help.  Then you could start over, but if someone were to merge the duplicates, you'd be back to where you started.

  Or if the other person is fine with being disconnected, I'd be happy to split their connection.  Also note that I am not Geni staff, I'm a volenteer curator.  So there may be things that Geni will do if you placed a help desk ticket, which requires a plus or pro account, that I shouldn't do.
