I have been away from Geni for a while. I received a payment notification (didn't realize I was still paying, they are quite stealthy about that), but thought I'd look into it again, but it appears something called MyHeritage is being forced on me as a part of the user interface. I'm confused. Why do I have to pay for two services?

Scott Baldwin In doing more research, I see some information about some sort of connection, merger or collaboration. But, still not understanding why I need more than one tool? It appears that all I might need is MyHeritage. Why would Geni introduce me to a competitor? Very confused and going to suspend my account (not let it auto-bill this week) until I understand this.

Jeff, Geni Curator Geni is owned by MyHeritage. It's not a competing service, it's a complementary service to offer you more capability for Genealogy research. Geni is for online tree management, collaboration, and the one world tree - the MyHeritage tools integrate with Geni to help you build your tree by offering additional data services (records of census, birth, death, newspapers, etc) and matches in other online trees. DNA testing is another service that is offered for additional research. Please see this help topic: http://help.geni.com/forums/21882243-Record-Matches-Smart-Matches-

Ivar van Duuren I don't get it either. It seems like MyHeritage bought Geni and now wants us to move to MyHeritage. That's fine but why not just import my data into MyHeritage?
Now there are two tools doing the same thing but tool 1 (geni) references to tool 2 (myheritage).
Every time I click on a 'Merge' icon, I think I'll be able to merge but instead I am taken away from Geni, hitting a paywall.
It just seems very confusing and silly to me.

Nila Jean Repard Just to be clear then, if I want to use the tree management system I need to pay 120.00/year to Geni and if I want the research tools I must pay 120.00/year to MyHeritage. So the full package is 240.00 per year.

Albert C Jans I think it is double dipping in the same trough.

Jeff, Geni Curator MyHeritage also has a separate premium service that is separate from the data subscription. Here is the FAQ on it.
Why aren't Record Matches & Smart Matches™ included in my Pro subscription?
